Extended Editing Techniques

We furthermore used many different that would give a profession look but also would add to the disturbed and distorted look to it.
Such as an echo effect, this effect gives a slight delayed trail behind the moving subject. This effect gives a distorted look and in effect confuses the audience but furthermore suits the codes and conventions that the genre of my music video but also stereotypical to our target audience.

Other techniques such as slow motion act as a balance to the speed of the song but when this slow motion (under neither) it matches the tempo at the moment of the song itself. The footage itself is a pans round the protagonists face and at acts as a break or a moment of intensity .

In contrast to the previous technique, fast motion was also used for such footage as the insect shots as some of the insects themselves move slowly so therefore the footage would have to be sped up as it could cause disinterest. Furthermore this technique of speeding up the footage would create uncertainty and confusion to the audience which would set some enigma codes for the audience. This effect was achieved by by the scene  near to the end of our music video as we created a 'flashback' as it went though the whole music video within seconds. This was to the show that the protagonist character is looking back on events and acting on them, taking the consequences. A sense of an equilibrium was created for our music video.

Also reverse shots were used, This was the thought behind the contextual reference, as Alice In Wonderland has a time concept within the narrative. This technique creates a time laps or shift in time that could be seen as a memory or confusion of the character and this is placed upon the viewer.

As the 'Alice In Wonderland' dress was a key item of contextual reference. We decided to make the dress stand out through the technique of colour isolation. To achieve this you choose the colour in which you want to bring out, in this case, the blue of the dress on the colour histogram. When the colour is selected, saturate all of the exiting colours, making the selected colour stand out. To furthermore make the isolated colour stand out, you fill out the histogram, making it wider so that the more shades of blue are picked up, until you achieve the colour(s) you want isolated in the footage.

This technique was throughout the 'flashback' sequence to highlight the antagonist character. This was to portray to the audience that she was a key role within the protagonists epiphany/ equilibrium. In which he decides to kill himself by jumping in a hole. This was the final contextual reference of our music video as Alice went though a hole to get to Wonderland. Within out music video, the 'Wonderland' could mean a state of sociological, physical or/and emotional peace for himself.
The graininess and darkness of this shot could also connect with his state of mind and/or situation.

To connect the imagery and track, we used markers to highlight were in the track the beats or highlights within the track itself. This in effect, we could us cuts or certain effects to highlight these beats/ highlights within the track and move the narrative on.
