Editing

We used many editing techniques within out music video by using 'Final Cut Pro'. This software was suitable in making our music video looking as professional as possible. This was developing out skill levels within using more industry based software, than using more amateur software such as 'iMovie', that I previously used.

First of all, because we had a lot footage of different scenes of the music video, it became apparent that naming each clip specifically would make the editing process a lot easier as it would be very confusing and stressful and more officiant than not doing so. As you can see to the left, we used very casual and noted form names for the clips as it didn't take much to tell each clip apart.

Layering clips/footage was a suitable technique to use and that we used frequently throughout our whole music video as the layering of complementary or contrasting footage, for different effects, created a distorted and confusing look, perfect to achieve the basic codes and conventions of the music genre our music track.

Above is the timeline that shows the numinous clips layered on top of one another that show a variety of fast a slow pace clips, including different sizes of numinous clips including addition effects.
Underneath is an clear example of layering within out music video. As you can see the intended female antagonist character in this particular clip is franticly moving her head using the gas mask, but the layering of the 'queen of hearts' card brings in the contextual reference within our music video. Also the clever placement of the 'queen of heart' symbol within the eye of the gas mask suggests that the 'queen of hearts' is key element in the narrative but also within that character because the eyes can tell so much about a person.

Within all the clips within our music video, colour correction and also low saturation was used throughout. Underneath is a screen shot of of the 3-Way colour corrector diagram in which we decided on a dark blue Blacks, a red-orange Mids and greeny Whites topped off with low saturation. This is a stereotypical look of a metal band video, suited the codes and conventions of our target audience.
