Lighting

Lighting is a key element in making any footage. Different placements and forms of light can give a different look and effect towards or from the audience.

Such as soft lighting, as you can see by the left hand image, a screenshot from 'Pride and Prejudice', which shows clearly the techniques and feeling this type of lighting shows. This technique minimises the shadows within the shot and in effect makes the subjects look smooth and apart of the mise' en' scene. Also, most commonly, defused light is used to add to the softness off the light, making it more fantasising. This technique of lighting is used in romance genres as it makes the subject look more glamorous and elegant .

In contrast, hard lighting gives the alternative effect as opposed to the soft lighting. This lighting is achieved by a straight forward light highlighting the subject in effect, creating harsh shadows. This makes the subject appear more threatening as the shadows could be made to hide the subjects identity in this case.
This technique of 'hard lighting' would be useful within our music video as it would fit to the codes and conventions of our narrative concept to suit our genre.
